10/19 Agenda

  • Air Filter Distribution Program to Five Boroughs Residents Kickoff & Request Form

  • Health Survey of Five Boroughs Residents Kickoff & Flier

  • Health Evaluation Presentation

  • Ending Comments & Thanks.

Air Filter Committee

Several years ago, VCAN gave indoor air filters at no charge to Clairton residents. This year we are doing it again!

Members of the Air Filter Committee will explain the process for Five Boroughs residents to submit a Request Form to the Committee. This Committee has purchased large, whole-house air filters and smaller, room air filters. After discussion with the Committee members, VCAN will give air filters to Five Boroughs residents. Come to this meeting to learn more.

Health Survey Committee

VCAN invites you to take part in a research study Community Environmental Health Assessment Survey in Mon Valley. We seek to identify common health problems in five Mon Valley communities: Clairton, Glassport, Liberty, Lincoln, and Port Vue. This research aims to investigate the prevalence of various health conditions and symptoms commonly associated with environmental pollution. You are asked to participate in the study because you are a current, adult resident of one of the selected communities.

This research study includes a survey that takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes. You have the option to take the survey in person or on the telephone.

Upon completion of the survey, you will be offered a physical gift card, with the value of $20.

Glassport & Clairton Health Evaluation

In June 2022, VCAN asked the US Agency for Toxic Substances & Disease Registry to come to Clairton. We asked ATSDR to determine if residents living near the Clairton Coke Works are being exposed to harmful contaminants originating from the facility.

In March of this year, ATSDR agreed to conduct such a public health evaluation with PDH.

Mr. McCray will explain how the evaluation is being conducted. He will also explain where the agencies are in that process and then listen to public feedback.

We ask for you to bring a neighbor and ask good questions so we can all learn!

Tom Bailey, VCAN Secretary
